Tvarka Sign and electronic signatures
How to check a signed PDF, ADOC or ASiC-E
Verification answers two questions: who signed, and whether the document changed after it was signed.
What to check
In a signed document the presence of a signature is not the point. What has to be checked is the certificate, the signature type, the timestamp, the integrity of the document, and whether the structure of the container is intact.
Tvarka checks uploaded documents automatically and shows the signing state. For an independent public check, the validator on the ePaslaugos government portal can be used as well.
- Who signed, as named in the certificate.
- Who issued the certificate, and whether it was valid at the moment of signing.
- The signature level, and whether it is qualified.
- The time of signing, backed by a timestamp rather than by a date typed into the document.
- Whether the content has changed since the signature was applied.
When it matters most
Check the signature before filing a document with an authority, before paying under a contract, before relying on a certificate you have received, or when a document arrives from an unusual source.
If a document was extracted from its container and then modified, the original signature may no longer hold.
Frequently asked questions
Is a picture of a signature in a PDF enough?
No. What has to be checked is the cryptographic signature and the certificate, not the visual mark on the page.
Can ASiC-E be checked?
Yes. The verification form on the ePaslaugos portal has a separate field for ASiC documents, and Tvarka reads containers as well.
What does it mean if the document changed after signing?
It means the signature can no longer vouch for the current version of the document. Use the original signed file.
Can I check a signature without an account?
Yes. The signature check page is free and needs no account; the file you upload is checked and not stored.
